The Diocese of Amiens, northern France, has announced that it will not renew the mission of three conservative priests from the Diocese of Fréjus-Toulon after months of “growing tensions” within the parishes. Fathers François-Régis Favre, Éloi Legrand, and Pierre-Marie Brochery, began serving in the parishes of Albert, Bray-sur-Somme, Mailly-Maillet, and Acheux in September 2025. They will depart at the end of the current pastoral year. In a statement released on April 27, Bishop Gérard Le Stang said the decision followed “a long period of reflection” and consultations with diocesan clergy and parishioners. He described the situation as having created a “deep and lasting disruption” within the communities. The pro-homosexual cardinal is a soft-porn author and Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith. He stated that a letter he sent in November 2024 regarding an earlier draft of the German bishops’ blessing guidelines remains fully applicable to the final version approved in April 2025. The German bishops’ document in question is titled Blessing Gives Strength to Love. They falsely claimed Vatican support for their guidelines. Leo XIV is expected to visit France at the end of September, according to a statement released Wednesday by the French Bishops’ Conference. The trip would mark his second visit to a European Union country outside Italy. “In the proposed itinerary, Pope Leo XIV could travel to Paris and Lourdes,” the bishops said.

Islamists attacked the parish of St. Louis de Montfort in Meza, Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique, on April 30. According to Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), militants entered the parish in the afternoon and destroyed the church, parish offices, missionaries’ residence, and kindergarten. Buildings were set on fire and the historic church was reduced to rubble. The parish was founded in 1946 and was one of the main Catholic landmarks in the region. Bishop António Juliasse of Pemba said civilians were captured and forced to listen to speeches during the attack. The Cameroonian missionaries serving the parish were not present when the attackers arrived and were unharmed. There were no confirmed deaths during the April 30 attack. The insurgency in Cabo Delgado has continued since 2017 and has caused thousands of deaths and displaced more than one million people. Synod.va published on May 5 the final report of Study Group number 7 on the selection of bishops: “In the selection of a bishop, it is necessary to consider, among other qualities, his ‘synodal competencies’.” (page 3) At least, the document also mentions Catholic criteria: “Among the qualities sought in a bishop are moral integrity, doctrinal orthodoxy, pastoral sensitivity, leadership ability, and the capacity to administer the Church’s goods.” (page 3) The main idea of the report is expanding lay influence in bishop selection: “The cathedral chapter… finance council… lay council… youth and the poor should also be convened.” (page 4) The report proposes that, when a diocese is vacant, a committee be established to work with the Apostolic Nuncio, consisting of priests, consecrated religious, and laypersons. MacRae (This story originally appeared onBeyond These Stone Walls) I wrote a post recently entitled “Book of Tobit: The Angel Raphael on the Road with Pornchai Moontri.” It was an allegory, like the Book of Tobit itself. An allegory is a sort of genre of Sacred Scripture in which a story is told more for its meaning than for its historical value. Every parable of Jesus falls into this same genre. A part of the story of Tobit, and his son Tobias and their interactions with the Archangel Raphael in disguise were all part of the allegory. That does not mean the allegory did not happen. It means only that the truth of the story does not depend upon someone believing it. There was one aspect of the Book of Tobit story that became a centerpiece of my blog linked above.
